Cynthia Clements Tubbs

Cynthia Clements Tubbs was born on August 7, 1932 in Casa Grande, Arizona to Margaret Hall Clements and Clifford Aaron Clements, long time residents of Arizona. She passed away April 11, 2012. CeCe, as she was called by her family and dear friends attended Emerson Elementary, North Phoenix High School (Class of 1950), The University of Arizona and Emory University in Atlanta, GA. She was a member of X Club in high school and a member of Kappa Alpha Theta at the U of A, and started the KAT chapter at Emory University, member of Spurs and the 1st Pom Line at the U of A and the Sweetheart of Sigma Chi. She met and in 1953 married the love of her life, James Darby Tubbs, while he was stationed at Marana Air Force Base, and then Williams Air Force Base. Upon his release from the Air Force in 1954 they moved to his home sate where CeCe earned her Bachelor of Arts in 1955 from Emory University. Upon graduation she was a Second grade teacher in the De Kalb County School System in Atlanta, GA. They moved back to Phoenix, starting their family and a lifetime of devotion to charitable good works. CeCe was an enthusiastic contributor to her community serving All Saints Episcopal Church on the Vestry, Altar Guild, 10 years as Church Treasurer and 6 years on the Day School Board. She served on the Board of The Crisis Nursery and the San Pablo Home for Boys. She was President of Golden Gate Community Settlement Guild and ran the Kindergarten for many years. She was a Life Member of the Casa Grande Valley Historical Society, Pinal County Historical Society and the Arizona Historical Society. She also enjoyed membership in the Phoenix Country Club and the University Club. Other community involvement included membership in Junior League of Phoenix, Chairman of the Ball and Chairman of the Board of the Board of Visitors, Phoenix Friends of the Arizona Cancer Center, Goodwill Auxiliary. Based on her passion for girl's softball she established and endowed the Cynthia Clements Tubbs Softball Scholarship at the University of Arizona. She was pre-deceased by her parents, her husband James Darby Tubbs who died of Leukemia in 1987, and her brother, A. Boyd Clements. She is survived by her children and precious grandchildren. Daughter: Diane Tubbs Rousseau and her husband David, Son: James Darby "Jay" Tubbs, Jr. and his wife Karen. Grandchildren: Darby and Rankin Rousseau, Cliff and Holly Tubbs. Sister in law: Beth Clements, one nephew Jeff (Laurie) Clements, , two nieces Cathy (Jay) Ladd, Leslie Clements-Jenkins and numerous cousins living in Arizona and other states. Private services will be held. Inurnment will be at The Close at All Saints Episcopal Church. A Celebration of life will follow at a later date. In lieu of flowers Memorials may be made to her favorite charities; The Board of Visitors 6245 North 24th Parkway, Suite 110, Phoenix, AZ. 85016, The Arizona Cancer Center 3838 N. Campbell Ave. Tucson, AZ 85719 or The Crisis Nursery 2334 E. Polk St. Phoenix, AZ. 85006. " Birds fly over the rainbow, why then, oh why can’t I?"
