Auten, William T Longtime resident of Phoenix, William T. Auten, 91, was born in Daylight, Tennessee on March 21, 1918 and died in Phoenix on February 12, 2010. Bill was a teacher at Creighton School for 27 years and a Captain (retired Major) in the U.S. Army. He married Dixie Lou Johnson, a Phoenix native, in 1951 and had four sons. He graduated with a Masters Degree in Education from Arizona State University in 1955. In his retirement, he traveled extensively, loved his summers in Flagstaff, and lived out a passionate interest in beekeeping. He lived a life of faith in his Heavenly Father and loved his family very, very much. He will be missed by all who knew him and his desire to make this world a better place. Bill is survived by his wife of 58 years, Dixie; sons Bill (Lindy), Brad (Marianne), George, John; five grandchildren Wain (Rocky), Brock, Bethany (Adam), Ashley, Andrew; three great grandchildren; and a brother Roy (Lou). Services will be held Thursday, February 18th, 7 pm at Hansen Mortuary, 8314 N. 7th Street. A military interment will be Friday, February 19th at 1:30 pm at the National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona, 23029 N. Cave Creek Road. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Christian Care or Hospice of the Valley.
