Virginia Mae Taylor

Taylor, Virginia Mae 93 of Phoenix, Arizona, passed away on January 8, 2010. Born on May 31, 1916 in El Paso, Texas to James and Nana Mortensen, she moved with her family to Scottsdale when she was one-year old. She attended Fowler School and graduated from Phoenix Union High School. On May 31, 1938 she married Walter Taylor in the Mesa Arizona Temple. She was preceded in death by her four siblings: Fontella, James, George and David, and a grandson Todd. Surviving are her husband of 71 years, Walter; two sons, Gary (Sharon) Taylor of Strawberry, AZ and Marc (Cindy) Taylor of Phoenix, AZ; two daughters Janice (Von) Johnson of Phoenix, AZ and Jane (Jim) Bowden of Hillsboro, OR; fifteen grandchildren and twenty-two great grandchildren. She was well-known for her service to others and her skill in cooking. Friends and family were often the recipients of her cookies, candies, cakes, and especially her enchiladas. She moved to Prescott with her husband after her children were grown and lived there until 2005 when she returned to Phoenix to live with Janice and Von. Services will be held at 11:00 am on Monday, January 11, 2010 in the Sunnyslope Chapel of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints at 8710 N. 3rd Ave., Phoenix, with a visitation beginning at 10:00 am. Burial will be in the National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona, 23029 N. Cave Creek Rd. on Tuesday, January 12, 2010 at 9:30 am.
