Joe P. Hughes

Joe P. Hughes of Glendale, AZ, passed away September 19, 2009 at Boswell Hospital. He was born in Bonham, Texas, January 27, 1931, and moved to AZ with his parents in 1946. He spent much of his youth with his grandparents in the small rural community of Telephone, TX. He graduated from Phoenix Union High School in 1948, attended U of A and ASU. He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean (War) Conflict and afterward worked in the family hardware business for a number of years. He spent the last 20+ years working in the manufacturing of large (specialty) bolts and fasteners. He was a Mason, a history "buff" and a loving and devoted husband to his wife of 40 years, Naomi "Toni" Hughes. He is also survived by his children Robert P., Margaret E. (George Lynch), Patricia V. and Nancy J. (Ernesto Alvarez), 6 grandchildren, his mother Lois E. Hughes of Glendale and brother James R. Hughes of Tucson. Graveside service will be held at 1 pm, Tuesday, September 29, 2009 at the National Memorial Cemetery of AZ, 23029 N. Cave Creek Road.
