Thord Sigvard Swanson

Thord Sigvard Swanson, loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather passed away peacefully June 10. He was born in Backaryd, Sweden January 12, 1921, and came to the U.S. at age 1. Thord grew up in Two Harbors, MN, joined the Army in 1943, earning his U.S. Citizenship and a Purple Heart serving with the 409th Infantry in Germany. After returning from WWII, he sang professionally in Duluth as "Dick Alan." In 1946, he married Evelyn Torgersen, the love of his life. They moved from Duluth to Arizona in 1954 where he worked in the textile industry and raised four children. In retirement, Thord enjoyed boating with his family and was an avid tennis player, winning several Senior Olympic medals. He leaves behind Evelyn, his wife of 66 years, daughters Donna (Gene), Sherry, Mary, son Brian (Diana), 6 grandchildren, and 6 great grandchildren. Family members will hold a private ceremony.
