Everett King

KING, Everett L. 83, died at his home on August 15, 2009 from complications related to Alzheimers disease. Everett was born in Norwalk, Connecticut on December 13, 1925. He attended Manlius Military School in Manlius, N. Y. until his enlistment in the army in 1944. Everett later graduated from Syracuse University. He began his career with Columbia Artists Management, travelling the western U. S. and Canada as a Community Concert organizer. Everett went on to study acting with Uta Hagen and Harold Clurman in New York City. He worked in theater, television, and film until the early 1960s. Everett moved to Phoenix in 1962 with his wife Susan Perry King. He established a successful career as a real estate developer, and became an active leader in the theater arts in both Arizona and New York. Everett was a former President of the Board for the Arizona Theater Company, and served as a Board Member and Trustee for many years. He has also co-produced a number of Broadway and Off-Broadway plays. Everett achieved the rank of Yon Dan, 4th degree black belt, in Shotokan Karate. During the course of his life, he was an avid golfer, skier, pilot and sports enthusiast, and supporter of the Democratic Party. He is survived by his daughter Laura King, his son, Everett L. King III, and his devoted friend Susan P. King. We mourn the loss of our beloved, complicated and very funny father. A private memorial will be held Saturday.
