In loving memory of

Charlotte E. Recker
June 14, 1932 - January 1, 2020

Charlotte Elisabeth Recker from Bravaria, Germany was born on June 14, 1932, to John Buchhirl and Johanna (Thaler) and later raised as an Austrian citizen by her grandmother. She attended a Catholic school until the 8th grade. The following three years she continued her education by attending an apprenticeship for sales, living with a Jewish family in Trostberg, Germany. After that she moved to Munich and began working odd jobs. At the age of 25, she married an American soldier and moved to California. Taking up residence in Monterey, Selina, and Seaside, California, she was busy being a waitress, hostess, and an aerobics instructor. Later they divorced.

After several years in California, she visited the Des Moines areas and chose to relocate to the Midwest. This is where she met her future husband, John Recker. Six months later, John was transferred to St. Louis, MO, and he took Charlotte with him. They were later married in December of 1968 and were together for 40 years.

Charlotte began a job in St. Louis at Chestshire Inn. She ended her career working as a bookkeeper at Suntrup Ford. They gifted her a new car when she retired after John passed away in 2000. While married, she and John loved to entertain in their home. She enjoyed cooking and was a great cook. Together they raised many dogs and also had horses around their Missouri home.

Charlette was a member at Big Bend Woods Bath and Tennis Club for over 20 years. This was her extended family and social life too. She loved the sun, was always the first one at the pool on the weekends and was always wearing her two-piece swimsuit (even at 70)!

In December of 2002, Charlotte moved to Bancroft, Iowa where she enjoyed 14 years with her close companion, Larry Nemmers. Charlotte never became an American Citizen. She died January 1, 2020, at the age of 87. Preceding her in death are her parents, husband, John Recker; and close companion, Larry Nemmers.

Private services will be held at a later date.

"I met Charlotte when she lived at the Main St. Manor in Swea City. Because my father was born in Germany, we enjoyed many conversations. She was a person who never seemed to grow old. My sympathy to her extended family. Betty Smith"
