Charles Leon Crumley "Charlie" 86 of Austin, Texas passed peacefully in his sleep at home December 29, 2019.
Charlie was born on the Crumley Ranch July 14, 1933, son of the late Emory and Mabel Clifton Crumley. He is preceded in death by his parents, son Steve Davis and 3 brothers Alvin, Estin and Arlin.
Charlie is survived by his wife of 48 years Norma (Fowler) Crumley, daughter Joy Davis son Darrell Davis; brother Marvin Crumley. Several grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and a host of family and friends.
Charlie went to school at the one room schoolhouse at Fitzhugh until they built the one in Dripping Springs where he graduated. He was drafted into the Army at the end of the Korean war and was stationed in Dachau, Germany for 2 years. This was the only time he was away from the ranch. He was a veteran of the US Army. He worked as a mechanic at Central Garage in Dripping Springs for 20 years and then as an exterminator for 20 years and worked on the ranch in his retirement years.
As a child growing up on the ranch, he didn't know what a pair of shoes were. He ran around barefooted everywhere he went, even while at school in Drippin. He joined the track team and till this day he might still hold the school record for the 50-yard dash which he ran barefooted. Charlie loved trapping, hunting, fishing, ranching, gardening and a great love for his family and friends.
A memorial service will be held will be held on Saturday, January 4, 2020 from 12:00 PM to 2:00PM at the Fitzhugh Baptist Church, 11607 Crumley Ranch Road, Austin, TX 78736. Brother Oscar James and Brother Bo Henry will preside over the service.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Charlies' memory to the St. Gabriel's Hospice whom cared for him the last 4 years.
