Arla Viola House
April 26, 1927 - December 29, 2019

Arla V. House, 92, of Maquoketa, Iowa, passed away on Sunday evening, December 29, 2019, at Mill Valley Care Center in Bellevue, Iowa.

A private family celebration of life service will be held at a later date. Burial will be at Evergreen Cemetery, Delmar, Iowa. Cremation rites have been accorded. There is no public visitation or service planned. The Carson Celebration of Life Center in Maquoketa is caring for the family.

Arla Viola Gruenwald was born on April 26, 1927 in Maquoketa, Iowa, to Emil and Viola (Wirth) Gruenwald. She was a 1945 graduate of Maquoketa High School. She married Zellus Leon House on October 6, 1946 in Davenport, Iowa. He preceded her in death on April 17, 2013.

Arla was a homemaker who raised seven children and had lived in Maquoketa, Bellevue, Clinton and Quincy, Illinois among other places.

Those left to honor her memory include her children, Jane (Lorin) Steines of Moline, IL, John (Lavonne) House of Sabula, IA, Carol (Robert) Lamphier of Shelby, NC, Connie (Mike) Tengwall of Buffalo, MN, and Curt House of Rice, MN; 11 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren; and sisters Verna Rankin of Cookeville, TN, and Shirley Ritzman of Salina, OK. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sons Monte and Mark, brother Wayne Gruenwald, and sister Louise O'Meara.

In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, an Arla V. House memorial fund has been established.
