Evelyn Wagner
March 21, 1927 - November 18, 2019

Evelyn Rose "Evey" Wagner was born on March 21, 1927, in Whittemore, Iowa. The daughter of Joseph J. and Elizabeth Josephine (Fandel) Elbert. They lived in Whittemore till Evelyn was three years old when her family moved to Algona. She graduated from St. Cecelia Academy in 1944.

She was united in marriage to Dwight "Spud" Wagner on February 10, 1947, at St. Cecelia Catholic Church. The couple raised their family in Corwith before moving to Algona in 1950. In her life, Evelyn had many occupations. She was a telephone operator, worked at Garrigan High School as a cook, she then went to work at the Good Samaritan Society, Algona as CNA and later as a billing, payroll, and intake secretary, retiring in 1992. She loved being a grandmother to her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandson.

Evelyn enjoyed volunteering at the Algona Family YMCA where she would read to the children in the daycare. She enjoyed crocheting baby blankets and hats for newborn babies, reading, and spending time with her family. She was a member of Catholic Daughters of the Americas, the VFW Auxiliary, and St. Cecelia Catholic Church.

Evelyn passed away peacefully on November 18, 2019 at the Algona Manor. She was 92.

Evelyn is survived by her children, Terry and wife Hazel of Algona; Tom and wife Marilyn of Jewell, Iowa; David and wife Joyce of Whittemore, Iowa and Linda and husband Ed Kausalik of Grimes, Iowa as well as 17 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren, one great-great-grandson, two sisters-in-law, Rose Elbert and Gladys Elbert and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Dwight "Spud" Wagner, parents, baby boy, James William Wagner, and 11 brother and sisters, Isabel Besch, Gertie Schiltz, Elizabeth Elbert, Arnold Elbert, Irvin "Kelly" Elbert, Mike Elbert, Joe Elbert, Carmel Sweeney, Dolores Geelan, Archie Elbert, and Clem Elbert.
