Tresa I. Bickford age 95 of Monticello Iowa and formerly of Maquoketa and Andrew Iowa died Tuesday January 28 2003 at the Jones County Regional Medical Center in Anamosa Iowa.
Funeral Services will be held at 11 A.M. Saturday February 1 2003 from the Carson & Son Funeral And Cremation Services in Maquoketa with Pastor Pamela Schroeder of the First Lutheran Church in Maquoketa officiating. Visitation will be held from 10 A.M. until Service Time on Saturday February 1 2003 at the Carson & Son Funeral And Cremation Services in Maquoketa. Burial will be in the Andrew Iowa Cemetery.
Tresa I. Bickford was born on March 27 1907 in Cass County Iowa to Frank Roberts and Sarah (Haworth) Roberts. She married Merle L. Bickford on June 8 1929 in Nashua Iowa. He preceded her in death on November 30 1975.
She was a 1924 graduate of Grant High School and then began teaching in rural schools in Southwestern Iowa. She first received her teacher?s training from the Iowa State Teacher?s College in Cedar Falls and eventually from Marycrest College. She had also taught school in the Jackson County rural schools and then taught in Miles and Andrew Community Schools retiring after 40 years of teaching in 1973. She had also farmed with her husband in the Esgate area near Miles and near Andrew.
Mrs. Bickford was a former member of the Iowa Retired Teacher?s Association- Jackson County Branch Business and Professional Women the Older Iowan?s Legislature in Des Moines Iowa where she served for 2 sessions Jackson County Historical Society Daughters of the American Revolution Jackson County Republican Party and the Farm Bureau Women?s Organization. She had at one time been a very active member of the Andrew Presbyterian Church.
She is Survived by: 1 Daughter- Susan(Mrs. Ronald) Babcock of Monticello IA; 1 Foster-Son/Nephew- Glen(Carol) Houston of Clinton IA; 5 Grandchildren 8 Great-Grandchildren; 3 Foster Grandchildren 9 Foster-Great-Grandchildren & 1 Foster-Great-Great-Grandchildren; & Many Nieces & Nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents husband 6 brothers & 2 sisters.
