In Loving Memory of James E. ColliganApril 16, 1918 February 23, 2006James Jim Colligan of Safety Harbor passed away peacefully on Thursday morning while in Austin, TX. Jim was preceded in death and now joins his wife of sixty years, Frances Colligan and their daughter Janet.Jim was born and raised in New York Citys Staton Island. He joined the Navy as a young man and served his country admirably as a submarine sailor in the Pacific during WWII, being awarded the Bronze Star for distinguished duty. He continued as a Navy reservist after the war, retiring as Master Chief Petty Officer. After 20 years of employment with Crum & Foster Insurance Company in New Jersey, he retired in 1980 and moved to Safety Harbor, Florida with Fran.In Safety Harbor Jim was an active member, lector, and server of Es Spiritu Santo Catholic Church. He volunteered at St. Vincent De Paul Society and was a help to all who needed a hand. Jim was a celebrated shuffleboard champion at Briar Creek in Safety Harbor where he and Fran enjoyed their friends and frequent visits by children and grandchildren.In addition to his brother George, Jim Colligan is survived by his children Jim, Marian, Tom, Margaret, and Veronica, their spouses, as well as eight grand children.
