He also went elk hunting every October in Colorado and dove hunting every September on his various ranches and land holdings around central Texas. "Rita and I deeply regret our inability to come to Wayne's service. Wayne is very special in our memory --- especially mine. Wayne and I worked together on many projects while I was Austin District Superintendent. I especially remember his efforts to help secure land for future churches. While I was D.S. he had a major part in the the beginnings of Pflugerville, Oak Hill, Cedar Park and Covenant United Methodist Churches. He was tireless in his efforts. He was also generous to give Rita and me our first season tickets to the Lady Longhorns. He was a committed fan of the team through all its ups and downs. Wayne was also invaluable in helping us purchase our first home. Rita and I deeply appreciate his many acts of kindness and support. Jim Mayfield"

"My prayers are with the Riddell family. I worked for AS from 1969 to 1976. Mr Riddell was always a very nice person & knew his wife Marjorie fairly well. Always thought the world of her. Wayne, you are now in heaven joining Charlie Oertli. Guess you 2 can discuss "old times". RIP and walk with the angels."

"Blessings and prayers going up for all of Wayne's family and friends. I worked for him at Austin Savings from 1971 to 1979. His door was always open to all of us. He was loved and respected throughout the city. He listened carefully to your thoughts and opinions and did his best to understand how he could help your career. He always set high standards for all of his employees and mentored many of us in our careers in savings and lending as well as land development.I thought of him the day of his death before I even knew he had passed away. I randomly remembered his beautiful handwriting. I'm sure he would not have been in agreement about students not being required to learn cursive handwriting now."
