In loving memory of

Dorothy Jean Jennings
July 24, 1927 - April 16, 2015

Dorothy Jean Jennings passed from this life April 16, 2015, at the age of 87. Born July 24, 1927, in Sequin, Texas to Paul and Carrie Chessher, she is affectionately remembered for her gentle and loving spirit and was a true gift to those who were blessed to have known and loved her.

It has often been said that the best of things come in small packages. Dorothy Ninny was everything wonderful bundled in a tiny package, but a fiercely strong woman who was a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was the heart of the family and meant so much to so many.

She met the love of her life at a high school football game in Sequin, Texas, where as a beautiful majorette she caught the attention of a handsome boy from San Marcos, and went on to spend the next 68 wonderful years happily married to her sweetheart James Russell Jennings. Family was everything to them and they spent a lifetime building their greatest treasure.

Dorothy is preceded in death by her daughter Tammy Jennings; two sisters, Gladys Harper and Mildred Zunker; and brother, Wilburn Chessher.

She is survived by her husband of 68 years James Russell Jennings, son Ronnie Jennings and his wife Peggy of Round Rock, daughter Jamie Weir and husband Marshall of Dickinson, and son-in-law James Jennings of Corpus Christi, and brother James Chessher of San Antonio; and seven grandchildren: Kristi Moers and husband Robert , Jill Fischer and husband Justin, Misty Jennings, Tracy Machado and husband John, Jared Jennings and wife Lacie, Jeana Pitre and husband Rusty, and Laci Stoesser and husband Grant, and 17 great-grandchildren.

Quite simply she was heaven on earth and Gods gift to us. While she will be missed, the legacy of her love lives on in all of us.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 PM on Monday, April 20, 2015, at Harrell Funeral Home, 4435 Frontier Trail, Austin, Texas.

A funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM Tuesday, April 21, 2015, at Harrell Funeral Home, Austin, Texas. Graveside services will be held at 10:45 AM Wednesday, April 22, 2015, at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery, San Antonio, Texas.
