Bruce Roberts Gardner
October 11, 1911 - June 22, 2015
Bruce Roberts Gardner, age 103, passed away Monday, June 22, 2015.
Bruce served in the U.S. Navy during World War II as a Radarman 2nd Class from 1944-1945.
Bruce met the love of his life, Ruby, in Crystal City at First Baptist Church over 66 years ago. He has been a faithful Christian all of his life and role model to his family. The family moved to Austin in 1953 and joined Congress Avenue Baptist Church. He was Minister of Music at South Second Baptist Mission for many years. Later they attended Kinney Avenue Baptist Church.
God has blessed them with peace, comfort and strength for which we are thankful.
Bruce worked as Title Examiner and Correspondent at the Texas Highway Department for 25 years. He also worked at the University of Texas Sports Facility for over 50 years and was a huge UT Fan.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruby Gardner and his son, Bruce Gardner, Jr.
Survivors include children, Donald Gardner of Bryan, John H. Luttrell of CA, Nony J. Maulding of Manchaca, Ben T. Gardner of Blanco, Margie O. Gardner of Austin, and daughter-in-law, Lou Gardner of Houston; many grandchildren, great grandchildren and in-laws.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 8:00 PM Wednesday, June 24, 2015 at Harrell Funeral Home in Austin.
Funeral service will be held 2:00 P.M. Thursday, June 25, 2015 at Harrell Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow at Onion Creek Memorial Park, Manchaca, TX.

"Uncle Bruce and Aunt Ruby were such a big part of our lives with Grandmommy (Norma Gardner Davis his sister). They would come visit her and we spent hours playing cards or dominoes and laughing. He was always willing to visit and share great stories of his life and about the family. He was loving and kind when we needed it most and he will be missed. What a great long life he had!! We should all be so lucky. He is home now and shares in the peace of Heaven with God and Aunt Ruby. We love you all. Find peace in knowing he is well again.
