"I have known John since the 7th grade. We only became reacquainted because of social media in the last 2-3 years. He had a great sense of humor and always made people around him laugh. We communicated off and on by email. Although we have not seen one another since high school, he was one I always considered a good friend. I was saddened by learning of his passing only a few days ago from another mutual friend Mike Tilotta. My prayers go out to John and his family and friends. He surely will be missed. Mike Tilotta wrote on Nov 25, 2016:

"First of all, my sincere and heart felt sympathy to John's family. It is Thanksgiving week and I have just learned of his death. I have been trying to reach him for several months. I, of course, knew of his cancer and feared the worst when I could not locate him. My wife and I had dinner with him in June. It was the last time I saw him alive. We spoke on the phone several times after that. John was my oldest and closest friend. He really was like a brother to me. We met in the 7th grade at Fonville Jr. High School in Houston and became instant friends. We graduated from Sam Houston High School in 1965. We both had asthma and I think that helped us find common ground. He was always quick with a joke and was friends with everyone. He was my best friend. When you saw one if us the other was probably close by. We hunted together, studied together, double dated many times, bowled together, played golf together and most of all enjoyed our friendship for 58 years. I knew his parents and he knew mine. I live in Houston but have had second home in Marble Falls for the past two years. I say this because it gave John and I a chance to visit with each other and play a little golf and catch up on old times. He was a great guy and even greater friend. R. I.P. old friend."
