"Lit a candle in memory of Jason Wyatt Shockley"
Jason Jay Wyatt Shockley, 42, of Austin, Texas, passed away on Sunday, May 14, 2017. He was born May 15, 1974, in Paragould, Arkansas, to Gary Shockley and Lila Moats Shockley. He was preceded in death by his sister, Susan Renee Shockley England, his niece, Olivia Catherine England, and his grandparents, OZ Shockley, Helen Purdom Shockley, Raymond Moats, and Opal Gary Moats.
He graduated from Paragould High School (Arkansas) in 1992 and the University of Central Arkansas (Conway) in 1999. Jay worked as a news photographer and audio-visual specialist for almost 15 years, including careers at KATV Little Rock, KXAN Austin, and the University of Texas. He was a prolific tinkerer and avid Star Wars fan. He could often be found waiting with his bulldog, Flash, or cat, Ginger, for his daughter after school at the bus stop or driving his beloved Jeep Wrangler while listening to his preferred music U2, Bruce Springsteen, and Neil Young.
Jay was an adoring husband, father, and son. He is survived by his wife of 14 years, Carmen Dickerson Shockley, and his daughter, Evie Sue Shockley (8), of Austin, Texas; his parents, Gary and Lila Shockley, his brother-in-law and wife, Chris and Ashley England, and his nephew, Lane England (12), of Paragould, Arkansas; and many other loving family members and friends including his great uncle Scott Shockley.
A service in Austin, Texas, will be held at 1 p.m., Friday, May 19, at Harrell Funeral Home, 4435 Frontier Trail. A memorial service will be held in Paragould, Arkansas, at a later date this summer. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that contributions be made to a college fund for his daughter, Evie Shockley.
