In loving memory of

Mary Frances Wagnon
August 3, 1917 - August 17, 2017

Mary Frances Wagnon passed away quietly August 17, 2017 at the age of 100.

Mary was born Mary Frances Casey in the family home at Mullin, Texas on August 3, 1917. Her father, Solon, farmed, and her mother, Brilla had been a school teacher before their 1900 marriage.

As a late arrival in a family of four kids, Mary was both spoiled and picked on. She grew up in Mullin and graduated as valedictorian at Mullin High School in the middle of the depression, then attended the University of Texas at Austin, where she graduated in 1939.
After teaching homemaking and science at Hutto High School for two years, Mary went to work for the Army Air Force at the newly constructed Pyote Air Field, then moved on to become a draftsperson for the Humble Oil Company in the Pecos region. During World War II, driving no faster than 40 mph, she actually got over 50,000 miles on a set of prewar rubber tires!
On September 26, 1945, she married Glen Wagnon in Brownwood, Texas. They previsouly met while teaching at Hutto. After coaching for 2 years, Glen returned to the army and from the late forties to the early seventies, they lived the life of a military family, including overseas in Japan and Germany. The couple raised two sons, Charles and Philip, and traveled extensively. Mary taught two years in Austin Schools, and also a year at Killeen. After Glen's retirement, he taught real estate at ACC, and the couple continued to travel the world. After Glen's death in 1997, Mary lived at her Austin home until 2008, and has since lived at the Continental, where she especially enjoyed playing Scrabble, cards, and dominoes, and also visiting with family.

Mary was predeceased by her brothers Earl and Glenn, and by her sister, Thelma. Her younger son, Philip, died in 2015. She is survived by her son Charles, granddaughter Melissa Shepherd her children Trevor and Darian, and grandson Casey Wagnon and his wife Heather, and special in-law Lisa Nowotny. Also, other family close to Mary included nieces and nephews; Mary
and John Scott, Rich Scott and Family, Charles and Frances Casey, Brandon and Stephanie, Dan and Pollyanna Casey and families of Karen, Sally, and Paula. Also, Patti Casey and Kevin Casey, including A newly arrived great grandniece, named Mary Casey!

Even with advancing years, Mary continued to play an important role in the lives of her family. Loving, active, dedicated, and caring, Mary will be sorely missed by many who knew her. Her dry wit and recall of details were family legends.
