METZ, BONITA LOIS (BONNIE)

Bonnie Metz was called to Heaven April 24, 2018, at the age of 85 and following a long and courageous battle with cancer. She was born in Norristown, PA. on January 31,1933 to Herbert and Lois Moore.
She grew up in Brooklyn, NY.with her younger sister, Elaine, who has since passed. Bonnie attended Cedar Crest College in Allentown, PA. as an English Major. In the fall of 1952, her Sophomore year, she
met John Frederick Metz, then a Senior Engineering Student at Lehigh University in Bethlehem, Pa., only 8 miles away. During that college year they fell in love, and were married December 20, 1953. That love
continued, unbroken, for 64 years. The marriage produced three children, Douglas John, Elizabeth Anne & Susan Lois. The course of John's working life resulted in a number of relocations, first to Northern
New Jersey, then Suburban Philadelphia, then Central New Hampshire, Suburban Denver and finally Orange County, Southern California. During all these 33 years Bonnie nurtured her Family & raised her Children. She was also active outside the Home. She was involved in Church work, Girl Scouts, a Grammar School Crossing Guard,a Teaching Assistant and an Events Coordinator at the Anaheim, CA. Convention Center. While in Southern CA. all three children were married and the Grandchildren began to arrive. Bonnie became an active Grand-Baby Sitter" and "Child Care Advisor." In 1988 Bonnie & John made their final Business Relocation to Texas, settling in the Onion Creek Community of Austin. John worked in San Marcos and Bonnie worked in Austin. She was a Tournament Coordinator for "The Legends of Golf Tournament" at Onion Creek.
She worked for several Austin companies as a Secretary and was Assistant Office Manager for the Onion Creek Home Owners Association for many years. She loved to entertain her many friends, play Bridge, read mystery novels and care for her Husband and their beloved dogs. Bonnie is survived by her Husband, three children, seven grandchildren, to whom she is revered as "Nana", and three great grandchildren. The Family wishes to express sincere thanks to Doctor Lawrence Tokaz, his PA, Pam Garza and all the Nursing and Administrative Staff at Texas Oncology, South Austin, for their devoted care, skill, and comfort. Also to express love and deep thanks to their many friends in the Onion Creek Community. Their love, companionship and support over a long struggle was truly wonderful. Bonnie will be deeply missed by her Husband, her Family, her many friends, and by her little girl dog, "Miss Lucy". Memorial Services will be held Tuesday, May 8, at 10:30 AM at the Harrell Funeral Home, 4435 Frontier Trail, Austin, TX, with Rev. Dr. Chuck Kutz-Marks of University Christian Church presiding. A Celebration of Life will be held that same day at 12:00PM at the Onion Creek Club, Demaret Room.
