Gladys Jane Beyer
November 17, 1927 - March 17, 2019

Gladys Jane Beyer, 91, of Lewiston, MN, passed away peacefully on Sunday March 17, 2019, at Samaritan Bethany home in Rochester.
She was the third child of five born to Arnold and Erna (Tews) Ellinghuysen on November 17, 1927, on a farm northeast of Lewiston. She attended Immanuel Lutheran School (Silo) rural Lewiston through eighth grade and attended Lewiston High School. Gladys married Wesley R. Beyer on September 7, 1946, at Silo, and they lived their entire married life near Utica. They owned and operated the Beyer Century Farm, which has been in the family for generations. Besides helping on the farm, she worked at Wien's Super Value in Lewiston retiring at the age of 80.
Gladys was a lifelong member of Silo, and her faith and family were of utmost importance. She was a loving matriarch, excellent homemaker and seamstress and very proficient in needle arts. Among the numerous quilts she made, many are cherished heirlooms. Gladys made homemade graham cracker pie during holidays until recent years. She was a member of the church ladies aide, 4-H leader, and active in the Winona County Pork Producers. Grandma Gladys loved her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren and took great pride in their accomplishments. She was in the stands for decades at sporting events and livestock shows. Gladys was also a diehard Minnesota Vikings fan.
Gladys will be missed by all who knew and loved her. She is survived by her six children, Richard (Sharon), Sharon (Bruce) Volkman, Roger (Jan), Wayne (Janet), Shelly Beyer, and Darin (Shawn Drury); 18 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren and many other friends and relatives as well as brother-in-law Warren Matzke.
Gladys was preceded in death by her husband, Wesley, in 1988 and two brothers and their spouses and two sisters and one spouse.

Todd Marxhausen wrote on Mar 25, 2019:

"My sympathy to the entire family on Gladys passing. Looking back at the time spent with a Beyer growing up I realize there was Gladys always in the middle of it all. Whether playing basketball with Richards kids, talking 4H cattle or hogs with Wayne, cultivating the fields with Roger and of course causing trouble with Darin. Always in the background was Gladys with a kind smile and loving support. Most importantly she let her faith shine and taught her family of Christ's saving grace! May that be your comfort today and until we too claim our crown of glory and join her in heaven. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all. Todd Marxhausen & family"

Shelly Beyer wrote on Mar 25, 2019:

"Mom, Despite your long life, we were never ready to see you go and are sad here on earth. It will never be the same. All your children grieve your loss so differently and that's ok. You would be touched by all the stories we are hearing and comments about your spunky yet kind and gentle manner. Your memory lives on in your earthly family, and at last, you are able to enter Heaven and rest in eternal peace. Well done, mom. Love, Shelly"
