"Rest in peace, Nellie. Your warm heart, and delightful (sometimes irreverent) sense of humor will be so missed! You were my first friend when I came to Quincy Jr. High School. By the luck of the alphabet , my name being Foley, I was placed in Miss Ehrhart's home room with Finney and Gallamore, and you took me under your wing and made the new girl welcome. You taught me to dance (at least well enough for those sock hops etc!!) I'll miss knowing you are on the planet but will always have special memories of you and think of you enjoying a reunion with good friends and family who have gone before."

Nellie Mae Jones, age 78, of Quincy, died Thursday, August 9, 2018, at 2:40 pm in Good Samaritan Home.
Nellie was born December 25, 1939, in Quincy, Illinois, the daughter of Truman and Rosella Ellis Finney. She married J.R. Jones on April 22, 2004 in Quincy at their home..
She was a 1958 graduate of Quincy High School. Nellie loved to volunteer with the developmental disabled in Quincy. Nellie was very artistic, and always supported the Quincy Fine Arts. She taught ceramics, loved to garden, cook, fish and thrift shopping. Nellie was a very loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She touched the lives of everyone she met.
In addition to her husband, J.R., Nellie is survived by: two daughters, Leslie Rees and Dana Rees-Rives, both of Quincy; three stepchildren, Randy, Jamie, and Mark Rees; her
former husband, Edward Rees, of Kincaid, IL; four granddaughters, Emily and Jessica Gallaher, Lillian Dean and Hannah Rives; three great granddaughters, Madeline, Nollie, and Irie; several step grandchildren; a sister, Shirley (Don) Jordan; and a brother, David (Cathy) Finney.
Nellie was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, Truman Finney, two sisters, Janet Warner, and Margie Maddox, and a dear friend, Barbara Jean.

"Prayers for the family! Nellie was an amazing lady! I know as a friend to Dana the MANY weekends Nellie allowed several of us girls to stay all night all weekend long! Those weekends are some of my favorite grade school, junior high memories! Once I became a mom and kids would stay all night, I remember thinking Nellie must have been crazy having all us girls stay almost every weekend! ? She truly was awesome & fun! She will be missed."
