Barbara Lynn Larson Holderbaum died peacefully on October 12, 2017 with her grand-daughters by her side at St. Vincent's Home in Quincy, Illinois.
Barbara was born on July 11, 1942 in Chicago, Illinois. Her parents were Milton and Lillian Larson. Barbara attended Calumet High School. She went to college at Illinois State. She graduated in 1964 with a degree in speech pathology.
On August 24, 1963, she married her college sweetheart Bruce Holderbaum. They had their son Scott, on March 8, 1970. After living in places such as California, Illinois, Ohio, Brussels, Belgium and Florida, they settled down to spend their days together in Quincy, Illinois. She worked as a speech pathologist during her early years and as Scott would say, he was her guinea pig. When she stopped working she continued being a mom and taking care of her mom and father-in-law, George.
Barbara was a member of Christ Lutheran Church. She was best known as their "prayer warrior."
Barbara was loving, compassionate and quirky. She loved telling stories and talking about everything. She enjoyed reading books, magazines, catalogs and the farmer's almanac. However, she is best known for having the Hallmark channel on 24/7, except when her and Bruce would watch baseball.
She loved her grand-daughters, Tami, Paige, Macy and Ella. She always enjoyed hearing what they had been doing in school and everyday life. She was extremely proud of them.
Barbara had an enduring amount of faith. She loved God and spent many of her days praying for those who needed prayers. Even though she spent many days in pain, she still had a warm smile to greet those who visited her and could talk on the phone for hours.
Those left to cherish her memories are her sister, Sandy Reese and sister-in-law, Joyce Giles. Her grand-daughters, Tami, Paige, Macy and Ella. Her great grandchildren, Braxton and Adalynn. Scott's fiancé, Tracy and her many nieces and nephews.
She will be joining her love Bruce, her son Scott and her parents and many other family members who have gone home before her.
Final words from Barbara "Jag alskar dig."
Services will be held at Christ Lutheran Church on Saturday, October 21 at 2 pm. The family would enjoy hearing your stories about Barbara and would like you to join them for fellowship afterwards. The family asks in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to Christ Lutheran Church, 333 S. 36th Street, Quincy, Illinois 62305.
