Barbara "Barb" Campbell, age 77, of Quincy, died Saturday, September 16, 2017 at 5:40 p.m. in her home.
Barbara was born October 12, 1939 in Shelbina, Missouri, the daughter of Weldon and Edna Fields Mason. She married John Eldon Campbell on April 10, 1959 in Jacksonville, IL. He preceded her in death on May 22, 2015.
Barbara attended Payson Seymour High School and graduated from Quincy Senior High School in 1957. After marriage to her husband John and having two daughters she went to Quincy Beauty Academy where she was valedictorian. She opened a beauty salon in her home and a few years later opened Campbell's Wigs on Payson Avenue in Quincy. In 1974 she and John moved the wig shop to South 8th and added the Eighth Avenue Villager, a woman's clothing boutique and bridal store. In 1997 they moved to the current location at 2529 Broadway where she still worked and thought of her "Villager Girls" as her extended family. She and John also started a house and apartment rental business. Barbara loved to decorate and was very artistic which she used when decorating the houses her husband would remodel. Her passion was gardening and her 6 grandsons and 2 great grandchildren who she followed at all their events and was always there to baby sit. Her home was always known where everyone felt welcomed.
Survivors include her two daughters, Vikki (David) Kline and Sondi (Rusty) Miller, both of Quincy, IL; six grandchildren, Casey (Erin) Kline of Chatham, IL, Tanner Kline of Quincy and Carter Kline of Kansas City, MO, Parker (Alli) Brockmiller, Brady Brockmiller and Boen Brockmiller, all of Quincy; three step grandchildren, Whitney, Audrey, and Drew Miller of all of Camp Point, IL; two great grandchildren, Campbell and Elliot Kline of Chatham, IL; her sister and best friend, Beverly Stephens of Quincy; 3 sisters-in-law, Georgia Bunt, Karen Kurfman and Dorothy Campbell, all of Quincy; her Eighth Avenue Villager Family, as well as many nieces and nephews.
Barbara was preceded in death by her husband John and her parents.
Services: 10:00 am on Friday, September 22, 2017 at Hansen-Spear Funeral Home, with Rev. Jim Poll officiating.
Burial: Quincy Memorial Park, Quincy, Illinois
Visitation: 4:00 to 7:00 pm on Thursday, September 21, 2017 in the Hansen-Spear Funeral Home.
Memorials: The Clothes Closet at Quincy Junior High.
