Raymond Edward McCarty, age 74, of Quincy, died Monday, February 20, 2017, at 10:42 am in St. Vincent's Home.
Ray was born May 28, 1942 in Springfield, Illinois, the son of Charles and Wanda McCarty and Bernadine Kohler. He married Vicki Cray on June 26, 1970 in Quincy, Illinois. She survives.
Ray was a 1960 graduate of Springfield High School and worked at Allis Chalmers. He was a Corpsman in the U.S. Navy from 1962-1968 serving in Fallon, Nevada, Taipei, Taiwan, and Pier 91, Seattle, Washington. He sold insurance with Western and Southern Insurance in Springfield before moving to Quincy and working for Refreshment Services Pepsi where he retired after 37 years in 2007. Ray was a life long Cardinal fan.
Survivors in addition to his wife Vicki include his daughter, Erica (Dan) Carmean of Quincy and three granddaughters, Samantha, Amber and Tristen Carmean, all of Quincy; a step mother, Wanda McCarty of Springfield, IL; a brother, Harold Lee (Marcia) McCarty of Rochester, IL; a niece, Stephanie Hanusek of Millstadt, IL, and a nephew, Kyle McCarty of St. Louis, MO; a great nephew, Zach Hanusek and a great niece, Addison Hanusek, both of Millstadt, IL.
Ray was preceded in death by his father, Charles McCarty, his mother, Bernadine Kohler, and his in-laws, Harold and Lois Cray.
Services: 10:00 am Thursday, February 23, 2017 at Hansen-Spear Funeral Home, with Rev. Chuck Sackett officiating.
Burial: Quincy Memorial Park, Quincy, Illinois
Visitation: 4-7pm Wednesday, February 22, 2017 at Hansen-Spear Funeral Home
