Darla V. Bowen, age 63, of 5028 E. Paradise Lane, Quincy, died Friday, March 6, 2015, at 5:45 am in her home.

Darla was born October 14, 1951 in Carthage, Illinois, a daughter of James Stanley Howard, Sr. and Darlene Post. She married Ollie R. Bowen on October 10, 1970 in Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Quincy, IL. He survives.

Darla was a 1969 graduate of Quincy High School. She also received her certification in key punching from Gem City Business College. She had worked as a dispatcher for Comcast for 27 years.

Darla passions were dancing and boating. She had been a member of Quinssippi Yacht Club, Keokuk Yacht Club, and the Island Club.

Darla will be remembered as a kind-hearted woman who never had an ill word to say about anyone.

In addition to her husband, survivors include: two sisters: Linda (James) Howard Foley of Port Jervis, NY; and Jennifer L. Howard of Lakewood, OH; a brother, James S. Howard, Jr. of West Milford, NJ; her step-mother, Janet Cooper Howard of West Milford, NJ; ten nephews, four nieces, and two great-nephews; her God daughter, Nina Pepe; and her large, extended family in the boating community, whom she loved dearly.

Darla was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Paddie Howard Foster.

Darla was cremated as according to her wishes.

A Celebration of Darla's Life will be held on Saturday, April 18, 2015 from 2-5 p.m. at the Quincy Boat Club, 501 Bonansinga Drive. Please come dressed casually as Darla would have liked.
