Myra Belle Moore, age 100, of 1636 Wilmar Drive, died Sunday, November 18, 2007 at 2:35 am in St. Vincent's Home.

She was born November 17, 1907 in Camp Point, IL the daughter of Fred S. and Maude M. Guthrie Omer. On August 6, 1934 she married Joseph A. Moore in Vandalia, MO. He preceded her in death on April 7, 1947

Mrs. Moore was a graduate of Maplewood School in Camp Point and Knox College Conservatory of Music in Galesburg where she was a member of Phi Mu Social Sorority. After teaching music in Camp Point for 5 years, she married Joseph A. Moore, a teacher for 19 years in the Quincy Public Schools. Shortly after the untimely death of her husband in 1947, she became the Executive Director of Woodland Home for Children where she remained for 27 years and retired in 1974. She was a member of the First Christian Church where she served as Trustee, Elder, Diaconate and was Choir Director. She was a 55-year member of Chapter F of P.E.O. Sisterhood and a member of the Quincy Salvation Army Advisory Board where she was a former secretary. She was also a former member of the Woodland Home Board of Trustees, a former member and secretary of Altrusa International and a former member of Grace Whipple Chapter, Order of Eastern Star. In 1971 she received the "Distinguished Service Award" of the Social Welfare Group. In 1973 she was chosen "First Lady of the Year" by Beta Sigma Phi and in 1974 she received the "Humanitarian Award" of the Family Service Agency of Quincy and Adams County.

Survivors include 4 sons, Robert Ogle Moore and his wife Sandra, Richard Omer Moore and his wife Joyce, Ross Guthrie Moore and his wife Sally, and Thomas Joseph Moore and his wife Susan, all of Quincy; 8 grandchildren, Jennifer Hessling, Scott Moore and his wife Denise, Julie Stratman and her husband Eric, Suzanne Dohm and her husband David, Todd Moore and his wife Michelle, all of Quincy, Kevin Moore and his wife Stephanie, of Bloomington, IL, Amy Moore, of Missoula, Mt, and Joe Moore, of West Yellowstone, MT; 11 great-grandchildren, Lauren Shepard, Richard and Conner Hessling, Kenady and Kaitlyn Moore, Alex and Abigail Stratman, Olivia and Danielle Dohm, Austin and Alexandra Moore, all of Quincy; 5 cousins, Robert Guthrie of Elk Grove Village, IL, Dr. Richard Guthrie of Anchorage, AK, Janis Vaughn and her husband Gary of Rushville, IL, Reaugh Broemmel and her husband Ned, and Cal Swallow both of Quincy. In addition to her husband, she was also preceded in death by her parents, and a cousin Mrs. W.C. Swallow.

Services will be Tuesday, December 4, 2007 at 10 a.m. in the Hansen-Spear Funeral Home with the Rev. Joby Brown officiating. Visitation will be Monday, December 3, 2007 from 4-7 pm. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Camp Point, IL. Memorials may be made to Woodland Home Trust, Quincy Salvation Army Hometown Endowment, First Christian Church of Quincy, or Quincy Foundation for Quality Education.
