Sondra Lee Hanks, age 74, of 4512 Bunker Drive, died Thursday, April 5, 2007 at 1:05 pm. in Blessing Hospital.
She was born May 2, 1932 in Alton, Illinois the daughter of Louis and Dorothy Bunyan Voss. On May 11, 1950 she married Sherrill Hanks in Alton, Illinois.
Sondra was a graduate of Alton High School. She had been a former member of Vermont Street United Methodist Church. The Hanks attended church at the Quincy University Chapel. She was a member of P.E.O. Chapter EC, Quincy Service League and Spring Lake Country Club. Sondra was an avid seamstress, and loved to read, cook and garden. She was also her husband's #1 sports fan and supporter.
Survivors in addition to her husband Sherrill include a son, Mike Hanks and his wife Sonya of Huntsville, AL; a daughter, Krisna Hanks and her husband Robert Surenbroek of Emeryville, CA; 5 grandchildren, John, Jim, Michelle, Alexis, and Sam Hanks; a step grandson, Blake North; a great-granddaughter, Savannah Michelle Hanks; 3 sisters, Susan James and her husband Bill of Jefferson City, MO, Karla Roberts of Phoenix, AZ, and Nancy McMillan of Destin, FL, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, a sister Joan Graves and a son Mark in infancy.
A memorial services will be Saturday, April 7, 2007 at 11:00 am in the Hansen-Spear Funeral Home with the Father James Wheeler, O.F. M. officiating. Visitation will be Saturday from 9-11 am at the funeral home. Memorials made to Sherrill Hanks Scholarship at QU in her name would be appreciated.
