Pastor Gerald "Jerry" McCune, age 60 of 2116 Ennis Ln., a beloved husband, father, grandfather and brother went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, December 5, 2006 at 7:15 pm. in his home.
He was born May 22, 1946 in Quincy, Illinois the son of Russell T. and Helen Hawe McCune. On August 20, 1965 he married Anita Irvin in Lorraine Christian Church. She survives.
He was a 1964 graduate of Unity High School, and was employed by Gardner Denver for 10 years. In 1985 he received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Preaching from Johnson Bible College in Knoxville, TN. He began his ministry at Sterling Christian Church in Veedersburg, IN. He went on to minister in TN, NC, MO and IL including LaHarpe Christian Church and Akers Chapel in Plainville. Prior to entering the ministry he also worked as a painter and welder. His favorite hobbies included woodworking and finishing as well as fishing and hunting. He was an avid Tennessee Volunteer football fan, a devoted Chicago Bears fan and loved Nascar racing.
Survivors in addition to his wife include his 2 sons, Matthew McCune and his fiance Candice Gregory, Quincy, and Mark McCune, Hamilton, IL; a daughter, Tammy McCune, Quincy; 3 grandsons, Andrew, Alexander, and Sean McCune, and 2 granddaughters, Tarren and Emily McCune; a brother, William T. McCune, Loraine, IL; 2 sisters, Janice Sue Corrigan, Loraine, IL and Joyce A. Morss, Fowler, IL. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Services will be held Saturday at 10:00 am in the Hansen-Spear Funeral Home, Rev. Henry Pratt officiating. Visitation will be Friday evening from 4-7 pm at the funeral home. Burial will be in New Loraine Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the family.
