Thomas P. Barry

Thomas P. Barry, age 80 of 1021 South 16th, Quincy, died Monday, August 29, 2005 at 5:47 p.m. in Blessing Hospital.

He was born July 6, 1925 in Quincy, Illinois the son of Andrew and Clara Ohnemus Barry. On April 29, 1950 he married Charlotte Disseler in Quincy. She survives.

Thomas attended Quincy schools. He served in the 101st Airborne Division in Europe during WWII in 1944-1946. He worked for Gardner Denver as a machinist for 33 years until his retirement on March 15, 1988. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Triple Oaks Club, U.C.T., V.F.W., Moose Lodge, Knights of Columbus, Illinois Sheriff's Association, and Machinists Local.

Survivors include three children: Jerry "Skip" Barry and his wife, Norma of Odem, TX; Randy Barry and his wife, Tena of Quincy; and Dodie Dierker and her husband, Tracy of Quincy; eight grandchildren: Doug Barry of Quincy; Nikki Doyle and her husband, Dan of Sparta, IL; Amanda Scrimpsher and her husband, Brandon of Decatur; Michelle Cooley and her husband, Robert of Quincy; Megan Barry of Chicago Ridge, IL; Sacha Dierker of Quincy; Koda Dieker of Quincy; and David Barry of Odem, TX; seven great-grandchildren; eight brothers and sisters: Virgil Barry, Tom Barry, William Barry, Kenny Barry, George Barry, Bernice Mowen, Carlene Barry, and Vincent Barry; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Paul Barry.

Services will be Friday, September 2, 2005, at 9:30 a.m. at the Hansen-Spear Funeral Home followed by a funeral mass at 10:00 a.m. in St. Mary's Catholic Church with the Rev. John Carberry officiating. Burial will be in Greenmount Cemetery. Full military rites will be accorded by the American Legion post 37. Visitation will be Thursday, September 1, 2005 from 5-7 pm with a wake service at 5:30 p.m. Memorials may be made to St. Mary's Catholic Church.
