M. Walter Stapleton

M. Walter "Buck" Stapleton, age 102, of Good Samaritan Home, and formerly of 935 Kentucky, Quincy died Thursday, September 1, 2005 at 8:25 p.m. at Blessing Hospital.

He was born May 19, 1903 in Mount Sterling the son of Howard and Ollie Norris Stapleton. On July 2, 1924 he married Opal Morrall in Quincy. She preceded him in death on September 24, 2000.

Mr. Stapleton had worked as a salesman for 15 years for Quincy Produce company and for 22 years was a clerk at the Railway Express Agency. He retired in 1965. He then was employed by State Street Store in the marking and maintenance department. He is a member of Madison Park Christian church and was an active camping enthusiast.

Survivors include a grandson, Dr. Steve Seifert and his wife Bonnie of Austin, MN; 3 granddaughters, Donna Iams and her husband Lyndell (Zip) of Olathe, KS; Nellie Filllinger of Las Vegas, NV, and Sandy Powell of Quincy; a son-in-law, Paul Seifert and his wife, Maxine of Bellevue, WA; 12 great grandchildren and 8 great great grandchildren, 2 nieces Helen Grady of Versailles, IL, and Irene Pate of Jacksonvillle, IL. He was preceded in death by his wife, a daughter Doris Seifert, a granddaughter Susan Seifert and 2 brothers Ferris and Fred Stapleton and a sister Florence Davis.

Services will be Tuesday, September 6, 2005 at 1:30 p.m. at Hansen-Spear Funeral home with the Rev. Henry Pratt officiating. Burial will be in Greenmount Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday, September 6, 2005 from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. at Hansen-Spear Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to Powell Children's Education Fund.
