Mary Catherine Paben

Mary Catherine Paben, age 89 of 418 Washington, and formerly 326 South 23rd, Quincy died Wednesday, March 16, 2005 at 1:20 am in Sunset Home.

She was born August 13, 1915 in Camp Point, Illinois the daughter of Arthur C. and Flora Cutter Boger. On December 24, 1935 she married Harm H. Paben.

She was a graduate of Quincy College and received her Masters Degree from the University of Illinois. She served as a Quincy public school teacher for many years. She was a member of St. John's Episcopal Church. Mary Catherine was a board member of: Quincy Society of Fine Arts, The Historical Society of Quincy and Adams County, Civic Music Association, Quincy Art Center, Quincy Preserves and the Mayor's Preservation Commission. She was a member of the Quincy Country Club, the Gardner Museum of Architecture and Design, the Museum of Natural History, Past President of Women's City Club, Kappa Delta Pi, and was formerly involved as Supervisor of Quincy's Summer Art Program, Quincy Art Center's Student Show for 14 years, Vice president of Blessing Hospital Auxiliary, and Director of the Children's Choir at the First Presbyterian Church.

Survivors include 3 sons, Paul Paben and his wife Joyce, of Statesville, NC; Gary Paben and wife Cheryl, of DeLand, FL; Mark Paben of Seattle, WA; 5 grandchildren, Kurt Paben, Lisa Harbinson and her husband Justin, Zackary Paben, Hank Paben and his wife Melissa, and Drake Paben and his wife Olivia; 2 great grandchildren, Blake and Brooke Paben.

Services will be Tuesday, March 22, 2005 at 3:30 pm in Quincy University Chapel with the Rev. Daniel Banner officiating. Private burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Camp Point, IL. There will be no visitation but friends are invited to the services. Memorials may be made to the Quincy Society of Fine Arts. Hansen-Spear Funeral Directors are in charge of arrangements.
