Richard J. Hild, Sr., age 75, of 917 South 12th, Quincy, died Tuesday, September 23, 2003 at 10:09 pm in Blessing Hospital.
He was born February 14, 1928 in Quincy, Illinois, the son of George and Minnie Nothold Hild. On July 6, 1946, he married Alice Cray in Leonardstown, MD. She survives.
He served in the US Army during WWII and the Korean Conflict. He was employed as a tool maker at Gardner Denver from 1956 -1990. He started his employment at age 15 with Modern Iron Works in Quincy.
He was a member of Trinity United Church of Christ where he served as a church elder, a member of South Side Boat Club, the German Village Society, R.S.V. P., Gardner Denver Quarter Century Club, Men of Blessing, and the American Legion Post #37. He was an avid Cardinal Baseball Fan and Quincy Blue Devil Fan. He enjoyed woodworking, walking, rose gardening, fishing, and hunting turtles, deer and mushrooms.
Survivors in addition to his wife are a son, Richard J. Hild, Jr. and his wife Susan, Quincy; 2 daughters, Terri Hild, Quincy; Geri Lynn Miller and her husband Randy, Quincy; 4 grandchildren, Richard J. Hild, III and his wife Juanita, Ranger, WV; Robin Downs and her husband Chad, Quincy; Chad Miller and Courtney Miller, both of Quincy; 3 great grandchildren; Heather Hild, Ranger, West Virginia, Dakota and Brooke Downs of Quincy; a brother, Wilton "Babe" Hild and his wife Erika, Warrensburg, MO; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his 4 brothers, George, Gilbert, Ken, and Les Hild, and 2 sisters, Dorothy Turner and Hazel Jansen.
Funeral Services will be 10:30 AM Saturday, September 27, at the Trinity United Church of Christ, Rev. Timothy A. White officiating. Burial will be in Greenmount Cemetery with American Legion Post #37 conducting military rites. The family will receive friends from 4 to 7 pm Friday at the Hansen-Spear Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made to Trinity United Church of Christ.
