Grace M. Alger, 89, formerly of 6014 Ellington Road, Ellington Twp., died Thursday, August 1, 2002 at 12:57 p.m. in Blessing Hospital.
She was born April 29, 1913 in Baring, Missouri, the daughter of Lester and Clara Howard Damon. On January 9, 1932, she married Merle Francis Alger in Kirksville, MO. He preceded her in death on February 5, 1998.
She was a member of Ellington Memorial Presbyterian Church. Her career was her family. She was always busy sewing for five daughters, and, with three sons, there was always mending to be done. She loved her garden, and was known for her pretty flowers. She also loved music.
Survivors include 8 children, Nile F. Alger and his wife, Bettie, Kingsville, TX; Betty Lubbert and her husband Robert, Quincy; Shirley Maas and her husband Gerald, Quincy; Virginia Wellman, Quincy; Joan Vonholt and her husband Melvin, Clayton, IL; Norma Koontz and her husband James, Champaign, IL; Rick Alger and his wife Chris, Quincy; Larry Alger and his wife Michele, Quincy; 23 grandchildren, 9 step grandchildren, 62 great grandchildren, 11 great great grandchildren, and 1 sister, Inez Jennings, Clarence, MO. She also was preceded in death by her parents, a son-in-law Howard Wellman, 2 grandchildren Greg Wellman and Cheryl Alger, 2 sisters and 3 brothers.
Funeral Services will be Saturday afternoon at 2 pm at the Ellington Memorial Presbyterian Church, Kevin McGinnis officiating. Burial will be in Ellington Home Cemetery. The family will receive friends from Noon until 2 pm Saturday at the church.
