Ernestine Watson

Ernestine Jane Watson, age 85, went to be with her heavenly father on Wednesday, April 17, 2002 at 5:20 pm. She had been a resident of the Blessing Long Term Care Family since July of 1999. She formerly lived at 721 South 21st.

She was born April 8, 1917 in Quincy, Illinois, the daughter of James Augusta and Lillian Ellen Howe Wingerter. On August 17, 1937, she married Delmar Rayborne Watson in Palmyra, MO. He preceded her in death on December 22, 1997.

In addition to being a homemaker, Mrs. Watson had also worked in Chicago, IL for Irene Wicker, The Singing Lady, the Miller Company, and Richmond Brothers Men's Clothing Store in the Quincy Shopping Center.

She was a member of the Union United Methodist Church and Alpha Chapter, Order of Eastern Star. Ernestine was warm, loving wonderful mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She had a beautiful singing voice and even though her memory didn't serve her as well as it used to, she knew the words to all the songs from through out her life and could not be stumped. She immensely enjoyed all the folks who came to visit and sing for the residents at Long Term Care. She also loved all the folks who brought the animals to Long Term Care to visit as she dearly loved animals all of her life.

Survivors include a 2 daughters, Sharron Collins and her husband Donald, Quincy; Maureen Straube and her husband Bernard "Butch", Kirksville, MO; 6 grandchildren, Daniel Lawrence Burton and his wife Angie, Quincy; Larry Dean "Duke" Collins and his wife Marsha, LaGrange, MO; John Wesley Collins, Orlando, FL; James Rayborne Straube and Melissa Christine Peters, both of Kirksville, MO; Michael Straube, Quincy; 9 great grandchildren; 2 brothers, Gus and Harry Wingerter and 2 sisters, Auretta "Dolly" Frohn and Agnes Foley, all of Quincy. She also was preceded in death by parents, two brothers Emmett and Clayton Wingerter and a sister Lucille Wingerter.

Funeral Services will be 10:30 am Saturday, April 20, 2002 at the Hansen-Spear Funeral Home, Rev. Robert Morwell officiating. Burial in Quincy Memorial Park, Quincy, Illinois. The family will receive friends from 4-8 pm Friday at the Hansen-Spear Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made to Blessing Long Term Care and Union United Methodist Church.
