Betty J. Pfaffe, 59, 506 Highway 57, Marblehead, died Wednesday, March 6, 2002 at 11:55 am in her home.

She was born July 8, 1942 in Quincy, Illinois, the daughter of Leonard 'Pete' and Frances Rutledge Veile. On October 1, 1960, she married Thomas E. Pfaffe in Quincy, Illinois. He survives.

Betty was a very special lady. And even up to the last days of her life, she was more concerned about others than she was worried about herself.

Betty was a homemaker and worked many years with her husband owning and managing four apartment buildings. She was a previous member of the Melrose-Fall Creek Unit of Homemakers Extension Association and the North and South Side Boat Clubs. She was a teacher's assistant for a number of years at Payson Elementary School. She was a member of Salem Evangelical United Church of Christ. She loved her family and enjoyed preparing holiday meals. She and her husband built their dream home in 1973 and spent many enjoyable hours working together. She enjoyed boating on the Mississippi River and at the Lake of the Ozarks. She was a wildlife enthusiast and enjoyed walking and being in the outdoors. She loved her German Shepherd dogs. Betty and her husband traveled extensively across the United States with their children and then in retirement.

Survivors in addition to her husband are 2 sons, Rick Eugene Pfaffe and his wife Tammy, Quincy; Troy Thomas Pfaffe and his wife Shirene, Springfield, IL; 5 grandchildren, Alex Pfaffe, Springfield, Tyler, Jordan and Alyssa Pfaffe and Megan Kern , Quincy, her parents of Quincy; a brother, James Veile and his wife, Nancy, Ursa; a sister, Susie Morrissey and her husband, Timothy, Bradenton, Fl. and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Friday morning at 11 am in the Hansen-Spear Funeral Home conducted by Rev. Stephen Schuette. Burial will be in Greenmount Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10 am until time of services Friday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Blessing Foundation for Hospice, Salem Evangelical United Church of Christ or the Quincy Humane Society.
