Sister Eva Maye Murphy, age 94, 1927 E. Parkview, Quincy, died Sunday, February 10, 2002 at 9:47 in her home.
She was born May 23, 1907 in Ethel, Missouri, the daughter of George W. Attebury and Lizzie Richardson Attebury. On August 13, 1927, married Rev. Clyde H. Murphy in Brookfield, MO. He preceded her in death November 15, 1995.
Sister Murphy became a member of the Assembly of God Church in Bucklin, MO in 1920. After graduating from high school in 1924, she taught school in a small mining town, Lingo, MO. She worked with her husband Rev. Murphy in churches that he pastored in Iowa and Missouri. She taught Sunday School, worked with the youth group and was a church pianist. In Quincy she had worked as a saleslady at J. C. Penny Co. and Carson Pirie Scott and Company. Since 1983, she was visitation minister for Bethel Asembly of God church. She was also over the Senior Adult Ministry and held monthly services at Brighton Pavilion, Lincoln Douglas Apartments and St. Vincent's Home.
Survivors include a Son, David Lee Murphy and his wife Sue, Novi, MI; Daughter, Connie Hadfield and her husband Richard, Springfield, IL; 5 granddaughters, Cindy Zeni and her husband Dennis, Northville, MI; Linda Crawford and her husband Terry, Northville, MI; Maye Beth Martin and her husband Mike, Chicago; Kimberly Murphy, Visalia, CA; Susan Georger and her husband David, New York City, N.Y., a daughter-in-law, Sharon Murphy, Lancaster, CA. 4 great grandsons, 7 great granddaughters and a sister Ruey Morris, Bucklin, MO. She also was preceded in death by a son Glenn Eldon Murphy and a sister Mrs. Naomi Brown.
Funeral Services will be Thursday, 11:00 AM February 14, at the Bethel Assembly of God Church, Rev. Barry N. Clair officiating. Burial in Greenmount Cemetery, Quincy, Illinois. The family will receive friends from 4 pm-7 pm Wednesday at the Hansen-Spear Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made to Bethel Assembly of God Church.
