Our loved one Joel David Harshman, age 67, 2218 Ennis Lane, was called home to his heavenly home this October 31st. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and brother. He loved life and his family of God.
He was born December 21, 1933 in Sterling, Illinois, the son of William James and Verna Hey Harshman. On October 24, 1954, he married Joanne Wagenknecht in Sterling. She survives. They celebrated their 47th anniversary October 24, 2001.
Mr. Harshman was a graduate of Sterling High School. He was a member of the Christian faith and a dedicated member of Payson Avenue Community Church for many years where he was a deacon. He was a member of South Side Commercial Club and North Side Businessmen's Club. Mr. Harshman was an avid Cub fan and loved playing cards. He was in partnership in Hey Brothers Ice Cream from 1960 to 1973 when the company closed. From 1973 to 1995 he owned and operated H & H Refrigeration, a heating and air-conditioning service.
Survivors in addition to his wife are 3 sons, Steven Douglas Harshman, Lewistown, MO, Timothy Douglas Harshman, Quincy, James Douglas Harshman, Quincy, 2 daughters, Kimberly Irene Wert and her husband Daniel, Quincy, Linda Jo Harmening and her husband Trent, Quincy, 6 grandchildren, Michelle Susan Geisendorfer and her husband Jeremy, Canton, MO, Angel Alexis Wert, Colby Lee and Chevie Lynn Damon, all Quincy, Kristi Jo Harshman, Palmyra, MO, Kristen Harmening, Alaska, 2 brothers, Gene G. Harshman and his wife Mary Beth, Quincy, Paul Harshman and his wife Marilyn, Santa Rosa, CA, 2 sisters, Lois Harding, Rockford, IL, Vera Boone and her husband Ross, Twin Lakes, WI and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by parents and a brother Dale.
Funeral Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, November 3, 2001 in the Hansen-Spear Funeral Home with the Rev. Clifford Phillips and the Rev. Henry Pratt officiating. Burial in Greenmount Cemetery, Quincy, Illinois. The family will receive friends from 4 to 7 P.M. Friday at the Hansen-Spear Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made to the family.
