Mary C. Schaefer, Willow Creek Nursing Home, and formerly of 2021 Van Buren, Quincy, died Sunday, April 8, 2001 at 10:43 pm in Belleville Memorial Hospital, Belleville, IL.

She was born March 5, 1920 in Monroe City, Missouri, the daughter of Marvin Rush Collins and Isabelle Emery Collins. On January 12, 1941, she married Louis Robert Schaefer in Macon, MO. He preceded her in death on November 11, 1989.

She was a graduate of Monroe City High School. Mrs. Schaefer was a member of St. James Evangelical Lutheran Church and the Lutheran Women's Missionary League where she served as Bazaar chairman for many years. She was a member of the Advisory Council for the Board of the YMCA.

Survivors include 1 son, Louis C. Schaefer and his wife Kathleen, Grand Rapids, MI, 3 Daughters, Mary Lou Fleer and her husband James, Camp Point, Roberta Thomas and her husband Phil, Warren, MO, Suzy Crist, Ewing, MO, Grandchildren, James Fleer and his wife Jane, Camp Point; Lisa Fleer, Perry, IL, Stephanie Wagy and her husband Marc, Camp Point, Amy Houston and her husband Chuck, Palmyra, MO, Candis Womack and her husband Byron Elllisville, MO, Tammara Goldschmidt and husband David, Chicago, Tracy Bugh and her husband Larry, Quincy; Michael Crist , Jr. and his wife Cindy, Quincy; Rachael, Sam and Spencer Schaefer, Grand Rapids, MI., two step grandchildren Kindra Szarka and her husband Chad, Palmyra, MO, Sam Houston, Palmyra, MO; Great-Grandchildren, Reanah, Shawana & Jenna Fleer, Camp Point, Madison & Logan Womack, Ellisville, MO, Nicholas & Leo Goldschmidt, Chicago, Royal, River & Raven Bugh, Quincy, Thatcher Crist, Quincy and Victoria Wagy, Camp Point, IL; 2 Sisters, Doris Riggs & Martha Jane Hurt, Lentner, MO 1 Nephew, Tom Hurt, Grand Rapids, MI. She also was preceded in death by her parents.

Funeral services will be held Thursday at 10:00am in St. James Lutheran Church with the Rev. Marlin Rempfer and the Rev. E. W. Blumenkamp officiating. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 4 to 7 P.M. at the Hansen-Spear Funeral Home. Burial is in Greenmount Cemetery, Quincy. In Lieu of flowers, Mary asked that donations be made to the St. James Expansion Fund.
