William David Steckler

Wm. David Steckler, age 67, of 4034 Marian Dr., Quincy, died Tuesday, July 27, 2010 at 7:30 am in his home.

He was born November 17, 1942 in Quincy, the son of Bernard Otto and Mary Elisabeth Thomas Steckler. On July 18, 1964 he married Jakay Todd in Quincy. She survives.

David was a 1960 graduate of Quincy High School and attended Northeast Missouri State Teacher's College in Kirksville and William and Mary College in Williamsburg, VA. He served in the U. S. Air Force from 1963-1967 at Langley AFB, Virginia in the Tactical Air Command Band. David was employed 23 years at Adams County Mental Health Center where he was assistant director and was the director of the Community Rehab Center until 1992. In 1992 he became the co-owner of Industrial Support Services until December of 1999. From 1997-2003 he was co-owner of Marlboro Wire. Currently, he was the owner of JB Automatic in Hamilton, IL.

David was an active member of Central Baptist Church where he had been chairman of the Deacons, a Sunday school teacher, bus driver, youth leader, Awana volunteer, Trustee, and he played his saxophone as special music. He was a member of Gideons International and a former member of Kiwanis. He was a faithful follower of his Lord and Savior and was committed to living that by example. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather, uncle, son, and brother. Dave had a special love for all people.

Survivors also include, 2 sons, Paul Steckler and wife Debbie of St. Peters, MO, and Shawn Steckler and wife Jackie of Quincy; 5 grandchildren, Evan, Ellen and Adam Steckler of St. Peters, MO, and Brittany and Brendan Steckler of Quincy; his mother, Mary Steckler of Quincy; a brother, Steve Steckler and wife Judith of Branson, MO; a sister, Becky Steckler of St. Louis, MO, and an aunt, Florence Snider of Yuma, AZ; a father-in-law, Donald Hungate of Quincy; a brother-in-law, Bill F. Todd and wife Glenda of Quincy; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his father, Bernard and his mother-in-law, Dorothy Hungate.

Services: 11:00am - Saturday, July 31st at Central Baptist Church with Rev. V Clay Noah and Youth Minister Ryan Donoho officiating. Burial will be in Greenmount Cemetery with Military Rites by American Legion Post 39.

Visitation: 3-7 pm Friday, July 30 at Central Baptist Church, 7th and Broadway
