Robert Lee Barnes, age 70 of 4010 Catamaran Court, Quincy, died Tuesday, April 27, 2010 at 1:40 p.m. in his residence.
He was born July 19, 1939 in Flat Rock, Illinois the son of Alvin and Mildred Johnson Barnes. On May 28, 1966 he married Sandra Kay Meints in Quincy. She survives.
Robert was a graduate of Bunker Hill High School, Bunker Hill, IL. He served in the U.S. Navy on board the USS Forrestal. He had worked as a manufacturing engineer for Emerson Electric in St. Louis, MO, Harris Corporation in Quincy and Wilcox Electric of Kansas City, Mo. Robert was a member of the VFW, Am Vets and Lima Masonic Lodge #135, Lima, IL. He had his private pilots license and was a collector of John Deere toy tractors. He had also restored a John Deere A tractor.
Survivors also include, a son; Jeff Viehmeyer and his wife Janet of O'Fallon, MO, a sister; Evalyn Ward of Mendon, IL and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a son Michael Viehmeyer, his parents, 2 sisters; Rosalie Hensley and Marla in infancy, and a brother; James.
Graveside Services: Friday, April 30, 2010, at 3 p.m. in New Providence Cemetery. Inurnment will be in New Providence Cemetery with Military Honors by the Mendon-Bear Creek American Legion Post #823.
Visitation: Thursday, April 29 from 4-7 p.m. at Hansen-Spear Funeral Home
Memorials: Blessing Foundation for Hospice or Donor's Choice.
