Leonard Batson, 80, 416 Kentucky Road East, Quincy, died Monday, November 27, 2000 at the Blessing Hospital at 8:20 P.M.

He was born April 16, 1920 in Quincy, Illinois, the son of George Batson and Louise Fett Batson. On November 10, 1945 he married Wilma Taylor in Hamilton Air Force Base, CA. She preceded him in death on December 17, 1999.

Mr. Batson was a graduate of Quincy High School. He began working for CIPS in 1939. He served in the Army Air Corps in WW II from 1943 to 1946 when he returned to CIPS and retired in 1982 as Electric Utility Supervisor for the Quincy Distrct. He was a member of Trinity United Church of Christ and its Young At Heart Group. He loved hunting and woodworking.

Survivors include 4 sons, Herbert Batson and his wife Julia, Quincy, Leonard Batson, Norcross, GA, Jim Batson and his wife Mimi, Mundelein, John Batson and his wife Karen, Atchison, KS; 7 grandchildren, Christa and Nathan Batson, Quincy, Ashley, Jared and Lauren Batson, Mundelein , Kortnee and Bethanee Batson, Atchison, KS; 1 sister, Lucille Shaw , Quincy, numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by by his parents, his wife and 4 brothers Art, Leroy 'Red', Walter and Elmer and 2 sisters Elsie and Irene.

Funeral Services will be 10:30 A.M. Friday, December 1, at the Trinity United Church of Christ, Rev. Timothy A. White officiating. Burial in Greenmount Cemetery, Quincy, Illinois. The family will receive friends from 4 to 7 P.M. Thursday at the Hansen-Spear Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made to Trinity United Church of Christ andor The American Cancer Society.
