Opal Irene Stapleton, 92, Canton, MO and formerly of 935 Kentucky, Quincy died Sunday, September 24, 2000 at 4:50am in the Lewis County Nursing Home where she lived since July 14, 1997.
She was born August 19, 1908 in Memphis, Missouri, the daughter of Ervin Morrall and Ollie Mae Harwood Morrall. On July 2, 1924, she married Walter "Buck" Stapleton in Quincy. He survives.
She was employed as a salesperson at Roderick P. Miller and retired in 1965. Mrs. Stapleton was a member of Madison Park Christian Church and had worked as a volunteer at Blessing Hospital.
Her son-in-law Paul Seifert said, "She was a wonderful mother and grandmother, always giving to keep her family happy and comfortable. I've known her since 1951 and I can truthfully say that my wife and I had a loving relationship with her. She liked to make homemade bread, rolls, pie and coffee cake and always had some goodies when coming to visit. She was truely a Christian woman who lived the Christian life each day."
Survivors in addition to her husband are a son-in-law, Paul Seifert, Quincy; 4 grandchildren, Dr. Steve Seifert and his wife Bonnie, Tulsa, OK; Donna Iams and her husband Lendell "Zip", Olathe, KS; Nellie Fillinger, LasVegas, NV; Sandy Powell and her husband Douglas, Quincy, 13 great grandchildren, 3 great great grandchildren, 2 nieces, Sharon Neese, Quincy and Vivian Fox and her husband Junior, Quincy.
She was preceded in death by her daughter Doris Seifert, granddaughter Susan Seifert, 4 brothers John, Virgil, Paul and Hillis Morrall and 3 sisters Iva Pitzer, Pauline Dearwester and Grace Anderson Scribner.
Funeral Services will be held, Monday, October 2, 2000 at 11AM at the Hansen-Spear Funeral Home, Rev. Bruce Willard officiating. Burial in Greenmount Cemetery, Quincy, Illinois. Friends are invited and may call Sunday from 4 to 6PM at the Hansen-Spear Funeral Home.
