Robert Harold Houvenagle, 4101 W. Iles, Av., Apt. 129, Springfield, (formerly of Quincy and Beardstown) died Saturday morning, August 19, 2000 at 1:43 AM in Heritage Manor in Beardstown.
He was born July 16, 1927 in Quincy, Illinois, the son of Harold Houvenagle and Velma Edwards Houvenagle.
On June 26, 1948, he married Patsy L. Ginster in Quincy. She preceded him in death on May 6, 1994.
He was a 1945 graduate of Quincy High School and served in the U. S. Navy from June 14, 1945 to July 27, 1946. He worked for over 40 years for Central Illinois Public Service Company. He ws in Quincy for 7 years, in Springfield for 7 years from 1956 to 1963. He was then Gas Operations Superintendent in Beardstown for 13 years and retired in 1989 after 13 years as manager of the Gas Department in Springfield. Mr. Houvenagle was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Beardstown, Beardstown Chamber of Commerce where he was a past president, a charter member of the Beardstown Kiwanis Clulb and a member of B.P.O.E. #1007 in Beardstown.
Survivors include a son, Jay R. Houvenagle and his wife Mary, Beardstown, IL., Daughter, Jan L. White and her husband David, Jacksonville, IL, 4 Grandchildren, Jason Houvenagle, Beardstown, Jacob Houvenagle, Beardstown, Christopher Leveque, Jacksonville and Andrew Leveque, Jacksonville.
He also was preceded in death by his parents and his wife
Memorial services will be held Saturday, August 26, 2000 at 1PM at Quincy Memorial Park with
the Rev. officiating. Friends are invited to the services.
No formal visitation will be held, however, his children will host an open house on Tuesday, August 22, 2000 from 4 to 8PM at his son's home, 19 Woody Avenue, Beardstown, IL. Memorials may be made to Cass-Schuyler Area Hospice, 331 South Main, Virginia, IL. 62691
