Margaret VanBlair

Margaret VanBlair, age 82 , 2515 State, Quincy, died Tuesday, January 4, 2000 at 9:14am in Blessing Hospital.

She was born October 10, 1917, in Adams County, Illinoois, the daughter of Fred Bangert and Amanda Rottman Bangert.

On May 27, 1939 she married Lawrence C. VanBlair in Pinelawn, Mo.. They celebrated their 60th anniversary in May of 1999. He survives at the home.

Mrs. VanBlair worked as the church secretary at the Lutheran Church of St. John for 50 years from 1946 until 1996. Mrs. VanBlair graduated from Quincy High school in 1935. She was an active member of the Lutheran Church of St. John where she taught Sunday

School for over 60 years. She also was a member of the Mary Martha Guild, the Altar Guild and sang in the choir. Mrs. VanBlair had also volunteered at the Blessing Hospital Tea Room.

Survivors in addition to her husband are cousins, Norma Abernathy & her husband Lloyd, St. Ann, Mo; Susan Abernathy, St. Ann, Mo; Gail Abernathy, St. Ann, Mo; Pamela Loeffler and her husband Rick, Lake St. Louis, MO; Robert Bangert and his wife Margie, Bluffs, IL; Gerald Bangert and his wife Mary, Galesburg, IL; James Bangert and his wife Pat, Quincy; Betty Kestner and her husband Hubert, Clayton; Eleanor Echternkamp, Quincy and several cousins in Ohio.

3 God children, Susan Abernathy, St. Ann, MO; Joel Landskroener, Baltimore, MD; Timothy Rottman, Hamilton, IL.

Funeral services will be held Friday morning, January 7, 2000 in the Lutheran Church of St. John, Rev. Harold Bender officiating.

Burial in Greenmount Cemetery, Quincy, Illinois.

The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 4 to 7PM at the Hansen-Spear Funeral Home.

Memorial contributions may be made to Lutheran Church of St. John.
