Helen Moenning McCleery, 97, 2130 Harrison, Quincy, (formerly of 2219 Vermont) died Thursday, January 27, 2000 at 8:05 am in the Good Samaritan Home.

She was born April 13, 1902 in Quincy, Illinois, the daughter of George E. and Elizabeth Bauer Moenning.

On January 8,1921, she married Edgar R. McCleery in Quincy. He preceded her in death on December 1, 1972.

She served on the boards of Cheerful Home, Blessing Hospital, the American Red Cross Board, the Woodland Home, and the Anna Brown Home where she was president for 4 years.

She was an avid bridge player and Cardinal Baseball Fan, and an energetic walker. She was a member of the First Union Congregational Church and a past member of the Quincy Country Club.

Survivors include a son, Edgar R. McCleery, Jr.and his wife Rita, Naples, FL; daughter-in-law, Marion H. "Tink" McCleery, Quincy, IL; grandchildren, Sarah McCleery Striler and her husband Robert, St. Louis, MO; Martha McCleery Wood and her husband Chip, St. Louis, MO; William M. McCleery, Jr. and his wife Christine, Quincy, IL; Peter McCleery, Trumbull, CT; Ann McCleery Gragg and her husband Jeff, Quincy, IL; 1 nephew, Roland Lehr, Jr.; 3 nieces, Sally Corry , Susie Lehr, Linda Eyer, and 15 great grandchildren.

Her son William M. McCleery, Sr., a sister Catherine Moenning Lehr and a brother Arthur Moenning also preceded her in death.

Funeral Services will be 2pm Saturday January 29 at the First Union Congregational Church, Rev. Scott Snider officiating. Burial in Greenmount Cemetery, Quincy, Illinois.

The family will receive friends from 1pm-2pm Saturday at the First Union Congregational Church.

Memorial contributions may be made to First Union Congregational Church andor Salvation Army .
