Daniel H. Rouse, Jr., 84, 5101 Eagle Pine Drive, Quincy, died Friday, January 21, 2000 at the Blessing Hospital.

He was born November 29, 1915 in Quincy, Illinois, the son of Daniel H. Rouse, Sr. and Henrietta Brosi Rouse, Sr..

On Feb. 26, 1944, he married Eileen Kaiser in Bloomington, IL. . She survives at the home.

Mr. Rouse is the retired Presidesnt of D.H. Rouse Company, being in that business 30 years. Prior to that he was an engineer with Gardner-Denver company from 1939 until 1942. From 1942 to 1944 he was the Plant Engineer for Chefford Master Mfg. Co. in charge of tooling , design quality control and development. He was the only engineer in a plant of 600 employees. In September 1942 he joined the U. S. Navy and from 1944 to 1946 he served as a Catapult and Gear Officer. He was released from active duty in March 1946, and he continued in the Reserve for many years. In April 1946 he entered into business with his father and brother in the D.H. Rouse Roofing Company which was established by his father in 1925 at 420 North 5th and 2 years later moved to 521 No. 16th. The move to Broadway was made in May of 1950. In 1952, Dan and his brother Bob Rouse became partners with their father who died in 1962. In 1952 he helped organize and establish Dealers Supply Company, a wholesale division. In January 1963, he was instrumental in incorporating D. H. Rouse, Co., Dealers Supply and Brueggeman Lumber Co., into one organization as its president. He was General Manager until June 1967 when his brother Bob Rouse assumed the managership. Mr. Rouse graduated from Quincy High School in 1934 and the University of Illinois in 1939 with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. Mr. Rouse also had a private pilot's license. He was active with Meals on Wheels, Scouting (served as Scoutmaster) , and had served as Scout Council Commissioner. He had been involved with scouting since high school and had been an Eagle Scout since 1931. He was a volunteer at Blessing Hospital in the Men of Blessing (M.E.N.) program, was a member of the Elks Lodge, Quincy Rotary Club and Spring Lake Country Club, and the University of Illinois Alumni Association. Among his hobbies, he invented a V-belt Drive, a Roofing System, and a pull or pop-off bottle cap which he developed in 1948, and which was a forerunner of the modern-day 'pull off' type of bottle caps. He learned early that very few inventions or ideas are easy to get patented or marketed (But was on the right track with a couple of his own). Mr. Rouse also enjoyed sailboating, swimming, golf and the time he spent on the Internet.

Survivors in addition to his wife are 2 daughters, Gail Ash, Quincy, Jill Law and her husband John, Phoenix, AZ.; 3 grandchildren, Cory Law, Phoenix, Az., Wyatt Law, Phoenix, Az., Cara Keppner, New York City, N. Y. a brother, Robert D. Rouse and his wife Carlene, Quincy; a niece, Jana Rouse, Quincy; 2 nephews, John ( J.R.) Rouse, and Russell (Rusty) Rouse, Quincy . He is also survied by 2 sisters-in-law Virginia Penley and her husband Cy, Aurora, Co., Catherine Kaiser, Scottsdale, Az. and by 2 brothers-in-law Andrew Kaiser and his wife Louise, Palmyra, Mo. and William Kaiser and his wife Dorothy, Palmyra, Mo. and numerous nieces and nephews..

He was preceded in death by by his parents

Funeral Services will be 11 A.M. Monday, January 24, at the Hansen-Spear Funeral Home, Rev. Timothy A. White officiating. Burial in Greenmount Cemetery, Quincy, Illinois.

The family will receive friends from 4 to 7P.M. Sunday at the Hansen-Spear Funeral Home.
