Edward M. Miller, age 88, of 101 N. 4th, Quincy died, Sunday, April 17, 2011, at 9:00 am in his home.
Edward was born October 11, 1922 in Quincy, IL, the son of Clem and Blanche Lind Miller He married LaVonne Ruth Burke on August 4, 1951 in Quincy. She preceded him in death on February 26, 1997.
He was a 1941 graduate of Quincy High School, served in WWII as a combat military policeman serving in England, France, Belgium and Germany. He worked at Block and Kuhl Department Store as display manager, later retiring after 34 years from Carson Pirie Scott at Fifth and Maine Streets. He then kept busy by opening his sign company and making hand-lettered signs.
He was a member of St. Francis Solanus Catholic Church.
Ed enjoyed reading, was an avid bowler, was once Quincy City Bowling Champion, enjoyed camping, hunting and fishing, the history of Quincy, a big fan of the St. Louis Cardinals, and enjoyed his children and grandchildren
Survivors include: four children, Mary R. Edwards of Champaign, IL, Mark P. (Claire) Miller of Neenah, WI, Suzanne Miller and Randy (Geri) Miller, all of Quincy; 6 grandchildren, Chad Miller of Los Angeles, CA, Joshua Miller and Courtney Miller, both of Quincy, Cameron Edwards of Champaign, IL, Catherine and Frances Miller of Neenah, WI; one great grandchild, Ayden Heagy of Quincy; three sisters, Maxine Holthaus of Canton, IL, and Norma and Patricia Miller, both of Quincy.
Mr. Miller was also preceded in death by his brothers, Raymond and Daniel Miller, a sister, Wilma, his parents, and a son Michael Edward Miller.
Services: 11:00 am Thursday, April 21, 2011 at Hansen-Spear Funeral Home, with Father Tom Shaughnessy, O.F.M. officiating.
