In loving memory of

Delores "Dee" Mataya
February 25, 1944 - December 14, 2018

Delores "Dee" Kaye Mataya (née Christensen) passed away December 13, 2018 at Mercy Hospice in Johnston after a 5-year struggle with cancer. A memorial visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 29, 2018 at Fox Creek Church, 33365 335th Street, in Waukee. A memorial service will follow the visitation and will begin at 11:00 a.m. A private family burial will be held in the Hillsdale Cemetery in Madrid, Iowa.

Dee was born February 25, 1944 to Allyn and Lois (Jordan) Christensen. She attended school in Ogden until 5th grade when her parents moved the family to Madrid. Dee graduated form Madrid High School with the class of 1962. After high school, she attended AIB. On September 29, 1962, she married Harry Mataya in Madrid. The couple relocated to the Des Moines area where they raised their family. Dee worked at Coopers & Lybrand and then Galinsky and Co. She is the mother of 3 daughters and beloved dogs, most currently Annee the greyhound. She was dedicated to her kids and taking them to music lessons and she loved to travel across the U.S. and the world, more recently traveling with her husband and dog(s) in their motorhome on annual winter-long sojourns in California. Any time spent in Palm Springs was exceptional. She enjoyed an annual tent camping trip with her oldest daughter to see national parks. If she wasn't traveling, you could find her hunting for Hallmark ornaments at garage sales and thrift stores around the city, "rescuing" any item that would bring her joy for a cheap thrill. She also was a beloved auntie and grammy, spending countless hours taking care of her grandkids and nephews and nieces. She taught many of them how to play the piano.

She is survived by husband, Harry, daughters Terry, Jill Corry (Dave), and Chrissy. Also, 3 grandchildren, Grace, Quinton & Vivian Corry, sister Patti Christensen, brother Brian Christensen (Marianne) & 7 nieces, nephews.

Dee was preceded in death by her parents and brother Richard Christensen.

Memorial contributions may be directed to Heartland Greyhound Adoption, PO Box 342, Bondurant, Iowa, 50035.

Celebrate Life Iowa has been entrusted with the care of Dee and her family.
