James Marion Mayo
November 30, 1940 - July 8, 2018

James Marion Mayo, 77, of Urbandale, passed away on Sunday, July 8, 2018 at Kavanagh Hospice House in Des Moines, Iowa. A graveside service will be held on Monday, July 23, 2018 at 12:30 p.m. at the Iowa Veterans Cemetery in rural Adel, Iowa.

James was born on November 30, 1940 to Lloyd and Malinda (Chodur) Mayo in Mason City, Iowa. He attended school in Mason City and graduated from Mason City High School with the class of 1958. After high school he began working as a machinist. In 1964, he was drafted to the Army for the Vietnam Conflict. He served his time in the Army in Korea. Once returning home from the service he relocated his family to Chicago, IL where he worked as a machinist. He became an owner/operator truck driver in the early 1970s. James and his family lived in Texas, California, before returning to Iowa in 1996. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge. James loved construction and building things, fixing broken items, and traveling to the Philippines.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife Myrna Mayo of Des Moines, IA; children Lisa (Eddie) Ulrich-Zajac, and Renz (Josh) Bryant of Des Moines, IA; grandchildren Patrick Rogers, Josh (Katrina) Ulrich, Jameson Bryant, and Dean Bryant; and great-granddaughter Keira Ulrich.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Celebrate Life Iowa was entrusted with Jamess cremation care.
