Memorials: Directed to the family

Doyle Lee Larsen, son of Chris and Mary (Christensen) Larsen, was born on March 3, 1942 in Council Bluffs, Iowa. His mother passed away on July 19, 1942, just three and a half months following his birth. When Doyle was 9 years old, his father married Myrtle (Sweetman) Ellerbeck in 1951 and Doyle and his siblings gained five brothers. He attended school in Council Bluffs and worked for a number of years in store maintenance.

Doyle enjoyed woodworking and was known for his green thumb. His love for gardening sprouted in his younger years and continued into his adult years, growing a garden in the hills of Western Iowa, which was full of flowers and vegetables. Doyle continued his passion for gardening while residing at the Glen Haven Home where he cared for the plants and maintained the beautiful flowers in the courtyard. A recent special highlight in his life was when arrangements were made for him to tour Lauritzen Gardens in Omaha, where he spent hours among the beautiful plants and flowers.

Doyle passed away on August 25, 2018 at Glen Haven at the age of 76 years, 5 months, and 22 days. He was preceded in death by his parents; step mother, Myrtle Ellerbeck-Larsen, who loved and raised him as her one of her own; son, Tommy Larsen; a daughter in infancy; brothers, Alvin Larsen and Orville Larsen; sisters, Beulah Peterson and Frances Tighe; and Myrtle's sons, Merele, Gilbert, Fred, Norman, and Lloyd Ellerbeck.

Doyle is survived by his daughter, Tracy (Kelley) Beckner; son, Torrey Larsen; two grandchildren; five great grandchildren; several nephews and nieces, especially Rose Mary Schoening, who was there to assist him when needed; extended relatives; and many special friends.
